Sutton Coldfield Angling Society was founded in the spring of 1947 with the simple aim of providing varied fishing for its members. Nearly 80 years later, that principle still holds: SCAS operates a diverse portfolio that has always been deliberately built across rivers, canals, and stillwaters to suit specialist, pleasure, and match anglers alike.
The society’s long-standing river waters include sections of the River Anker, the River Mease, and the River Blithe. The Blithe stretch near Hamstall Ridware was purchased outright by the society in 1970 along with five acres of adjoining land and remains a much-loved part of the portfolio. SCAS has also held water at various times on the Severn, the Lugg, the Trent, and various canal sections, plus access to Fisherwick Lakes near Lichfield, which gives members an additional specimen carp and trout option.
The society is genuinely member-friendly. When mobility issues were raised by members on the Anker, the committee responded by creating accessible pegs in the first meadow. Strict barbless hook rules apply on stillwaters and the River Blithe, fish welfare is taken seriously, and juniors are welcomed when accompanied by a full member.
