Fenton and District Angling Society was formed in 1906 with a clear objective: to provide affordable fishing to the people of Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area. More than a century later, that mission still drives the club, which now offers one of the most impressive water portfolios in Staffordshire across both coarse and game disciplines.
The Society’s waters include several stretches of the River Dove (notably the specimen-rich Doveridge stretch, owned outright by the club), the rivers Churnet, Sow, Blithe, and Trent, plus Sutton Brook in Hilton, a tributary of the Dove with a strong wild trout and grayling pedigree where dry fly was traditionally the only accepted method. Stillwater venues include Dilhorne Pools, Finneys Pools, Overflow and Miners Pools, with night fishing available across selected venues, the Trent and Mersey Canal, and the Caldon Canal.
Game fishing has grown significantly in recent years, with members now able to fish nine river venues for trout and grayling. The Society operates a “white card” probationary system, uniquely, anglers can fish club waters while still working towards full membership, attending two work parties to qualify. Bailiffing roles, work parties, free junior coaching at the annual open day, and partnership work with Canal & River Trust round out a club that’s quietly one of the best-run in the Midlands.
