Founded in the late 19th century, Nottingham Piscatorial Society (NPS) is one of the most prestigious river fishing clubs on the River Trent, with a membership now around 750 anglers and a roll-call of famous Trent matchmen stretching back over a century, including music hall star Fred Kitchen, who presented the Society with the Kitchen Cup, still contested today.
The Society holds some of the most sought-after match water on the Trent, with more than two miles of coarse fishing across its Fiskerton, Rolleston, and East Stoke fisheries. The pedigree is hard to match: in the 2018 Division 1 National, seven of the top ten match weights, including the top three, were caught on NPS waters. The Old River Trent stretches feature hidden pools, natural weirs, fast gravel slides, and deep runs under overhanging trees, holding large barbel, chub, river carp, bream, roach, dace, perch, and pike. Salmon are gradually returning, a quiet success story of catchment recovery.
Three stretches are bookable for visiting matches (Fiskerton, Rolleston, East Stoke), two offer day ticket fishing (Fiskerton and Rolleston), and one allows non-members to apply for a guest season ticket on part of the famous East Stoke water. NPS runs annual events, guest speaker evenings open to non-members, and is committed to building an inclusive, discrimination-free angling culture. For serious river anglers, this is one of the great clubs.
