Canal, River
Founded in 1883, Birmingham Anglers Association (BAA) is one of the oldest and largest angling clubs in the UK and at its 1970s peak it claimed over 70,000 members and 1,200 affiliated clubs, making it, by some accounts, one of the biggest angling associations in the world. Today the BAA still controls more than 200 miles of bank across the Midlands, including stretches of the River Severn, the Staffs & Worcs Canal, the Warwickshire Avon, and a network of pools and reservoirs across the West Midlands and Worcestershire.
Membership is annual and direct from the BAA office, there are no day tickets on association waters as of 2017, so a full membership card is essential when fishing any BAA stretch. Memberships run from full adult through to senior (65+), junior (13–17), family, and infant (under-13s fish free with a member adult). Anglers can expect quality coarse fishing across rivers, canals, and stillwaters, with strong head of barbel, chub, perch, roach, bream, and carp across the venues. Free junior coaching is offered through the year.
The BAA is a non-profit run for the benefit of its members, with a long-standing focus on conservation, bailiffing, and access. Membership applications can be made online, by post, or by phone via the BAA office in Hagley, Worcestershire.
